Karstadt Warenhaus strengthens leadership team

Karstadt Warenhaus is pleased to announce the appointment of Claudia Reinery as COO

As of 1 September 2017, Karstadt Warenhaus will strengthen its leadership team with Claudia Reinery. As Chief Operating Officer (COO), Reinery will become a member of the management board alongside CEO Dr Stephan Fanderl and CFO and Director of Labour Relations Miguel Müllenbach.

In future, Reinery will be responsible for purchasing, sales and marketing. In this role, she will be working with Chief Merchandise Officer Jörg Peter Schmiddem and Chief Retail Officer Sales Thomas Wanke, as well as the marketing team.

Claudia Reinery knows the department store business very well: after many years of employment in a variety of leadership positions in purchasing, sales and marketing at Karstadt, in 2009 she switched to Galeria Kaufhof as a member of management and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer. Lastly, Reinery has successfully proven her well-established knowledge and experience in managing challenging retail strategies and change processes in the context of reorganising beauty specialist Douglas as a member of management of the Douglas Group and CEO of Douglas Germany.

Karstadt CEO Dr Stephan Fanderl says, “We have completely reorganised Karstadt for the developing retail market. In order to increase speed further, we are strengthening our leadership team with as experienced and distinguished a businesswoman as Claudia Reinery.

We are currently working on further developing our business model into a real omni-channel marketplace. This also means that we are becoming much more cooperative and are increasingly integrating new and already existing partnerships into our business model.

From September, I will drive forward the digitalisation of Karstadt more aggressively and handle new partnerships and the expansion of our trading platform in the Signa Retail Group more. In addition, I will lead Karstadt Warenhaus more strongly ‘towards the customer’ and will spend considerably more time with the teams in the stores”.

Wolfram Keil, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Karstadt Warenhaus GmbH, says, “With Claudia Reinery, we are gaining a highly esteemed business expert to update the success story of Karstadt. I am delighted that we can further strengthen Karstadt’s management for the long-term in this way”.

Claudia Reinery states, “Karstadt currently defines a new design of department store that will make the company into a successful provider in the omni-channel market of the future and, together with successful online players, lays the foundations for new, connected shopping experiences. I am looking forward to joining in on moving this development forward”.

The appointment of Claudia Reinery to Managing Director and COO is still subject to the approval of the Karstadt Warenhaus GmbH Supervisory Board.
